THE ARTISTS JOURNAL

Here you are going to get a chance to get to know the artist through his own words.  He will be writing to you on a regular basis and he looks forward to sharing with you his experiences as this projects moves forward.

Hi again, I'm back!  I just wanted to say a little about the art work in this project.

You know it's a wonderful thing for you to support your community and to support a hardworking artist like myself, but even better I think when you know just what kind of value you're getting back for your support.  The work in this project is done in a media that relatively speaking is brand new.  Ball point pens became available in the 1930's and it wasn't until the 1968 that the first more or less serious minded artist began to practise with the media.  That was a fellow down in California named Jerry Stith.  To the best of my knowledge, he's the only artist in the world who's done this for longer than me in terms of years.  Now I make some pretty bold claims about my work other than being one of the first two to ever practise seriously, but they're not spurious claims.  they're based on research that started with my brother Dave online in 2004 and has included a growing number of people as awareness of my work has grown over the last few years.  It's something I always encourage people looking at my work to do is expand your search to look at other work online and you'll see that while there are some very talented artists who have begun to emerge over the last twenty or twenty five years, none compare to what I do.  One thing you'll see right away, is I fill up the whole page, that I do border to border imagery.  For those who do that kind of work, you'll find the largest pieces will be around the size of the ones in the smaller side of this project with Food Bank.  As for the large side of this project, there's nothing like it in the world.  Not even close and the truth is, as long as I'm alive there never will be because I won't stop until I pretty much give my last twitch and I've already got near fifty feet of work in the large scale side of this project.

It's that work that really sets me apart from other artists with respect to this media.   Now working with the Edmonton Food Banks, I have an opportunity to be the first to be the first artist to bring a major collection of this work into the mainstream art community.  It's for those reasons that people in the community assert that with continued exposure, this work will only increase in value over time.  It's because of that, your support for our project not only gives you an opportunity to collect some amazing and beautiful art work, but also to have work that will gain in value over time and prove to be a good financial investment.  Most importantly, you'll be helping out a great project in support of our community!

Once again, many thanks!  I expect we'll talk again soon!

Sincerely,

Ted Flower
